dear student,
as part of the requirements of the english bagrut program you will have to read authentic books written by english or american writers. the difficulty level of books should be 4 or more. you have to read four books throughout 3 years of bagrut instruction.
after you have finished reading a book you must submit a book report.
a book report should include 4 parts:
the title page with the name of the book and its author, names of the student and the teacher (nelia) and the date.
a brief summary (5-10 lines) of the main events in the book. it should answer the questions: who, what, when, where and why.
a book assignment (creative part of the book report-choose one from the list).
a personal evaluation part (5-10 lines), which includes your opinion of the book and a recommendation to the readers.
all the four elements are compulsory!
the book report should be submitted on time, in a folder, look aesthetic and neat.
your book report will be assessed on 3 criteria:
knowledge of the book
presentation
language
a book report should not include more than 4-5 pages altogether. remember: quality is more important than quantity!
the book file is worth 20% percent of your school grade for the literature module, so the successful completion of it will contribute to your final result in english.
here are the deadlines for the current year:
book report no.1- december 5, 2019
book report no.2-january 9, 2020
book reports handed in after the deadline will get a lower grade! however, you are more than welcome to submit your work ahead of time.

1. write a review of the book, recommending it to your readers.
2. write a letter to one of the characters, expressing your opinion about his / her situation and behavior or giving advice how to behave in the situation described in the book.
3. write a diary for one of the characters about his or her situation.
4. compare and contrast with another book you have read or a movie made on this book.
5. write what you think happens after the story ends; or invent a different ending.
6. choose a bit of the book you particularly liked/ disliked and explain your reasons for choosing it.
7. identify the main crisis or turning point in the story. describe and explain why it is so crucial.
8. choose a character you particularly liked / disliked and explain why it is so.
9. lay out (present) a story in the form of a diagram, graph, map or a time-line. describe what happens in each spot, indicate the ups & downs, label where necessary.
10. write / select a poem / song / music connected with the book and its characters. explain the connection.
11. identify the main themes / conflicts in the story. discuss them.
12. write / produce a script / a film / video / clip or a dialogue / brief play based on the content of the book.
13. characterize the language used in the book, give examples.
14. do the author's beliefs about right & wrong, good & evil come across? explain.
15. did anything in the book annoy or disappoint you? if so, what & why?
16. write a correspondence between two characters.
17. tell the story from a different point of view.
18. prepare a multi-media presentation on the book.
19. do a small research related to an issue raised in the book.
20. draw / make a picture / series of pictures / collage / mobile illustrating the story. explain.
21. do a summary of the story in comic strip form.
22. draw / make the sort of clothes / costumes you imagine the characters would wear. explain.
23. design a new jacket for the book. explain your choice.
