it is the year 629 ad. you are an arab from palaestina prima in the byzantine empire. you and your family recently moved towards the coast in search of a better future in the town of jerusalem. being pushed west towards the coast by the persian empire's constant advances into byzantium. while your family does not make it to jerusalem, you all manage to find a nice open stretch of fertile land which you can begin to live on. over the years, you manage to define and outline your land and become self-sustainable. you live a happy life praying to god, jesus and the holy spirit as well as enjoying the shabbat every week.

638 ad. the trumpets of war are blown. they have come. the rashidun caliphate has invaded palaestina prima and has begun to plunder, rape and murder anyone who isn't muslim. but of course, at this time being a muslim was a political priviledge rather than a religious one. you couldn't convert to islam at this time in the world, it was bestowed upon you through blood or a bounty. the rashiduns come to your farm and demand tribute or they will murder you. you have no choice but to accept to pay them for your lives.

you and your family have become slaves to the muslims but by 656 ad, a conflict within the caliphate had occured. it only took 5 years for the new caliphate to being: the umayyads. they umayyads were softer with tribute and would eventually let christians, jewish, zoroastrians and others to convert to their religion and feel their taxfree benefits. your descendents find it fit to abandon their christian religion and embrace the new and exciting islam. they do not understand what they have done and they never will.
the year is 1914. your family have been in the area for nearly 1300 years and under that time it has been controlled by 4 (3) caliphates. currently, your descendants are being reigned by the ottoman empire, a rather unusual caliphate but the one which has lasted the longest and proved its support and stability. your family find it easy to live under them. but it would not be long until a war was waged between the leading global powers. even your descendants would know that the ottoman empire could not survive a major war but that did not stop them from embracing the status quo.

however, 2 years into the war in 1916, a british officer would come to your people and suggest the arab revolt against the ottoman empire. in this, the arabs were promised control of the lands of arabia and the ability to determine their own future without intereference. your family help your people to fight alongside the british against the ottomans and you win. you free arabia from the turks and it all works out... until you find out the british lied... until you find out the french lied... you were free from the ottomans but now you were either under the rule of the french empire or the british empire. you may have had more rights, more opportunities and greater security than what you had under the ottomans but you still are not in control of your own destiny.
the year is now 1920. your family have gone through so many changes in religion, culture, governments, morals and all of it without your own say or intentions being thought of. you are sick of being below the ranks of a foreign people.

you begin to notice the increasing numbers of the jewish people in your land, coming in waves and waves and taking plots of your heritage and family. you may sympathise with their methods and problems but you are not happy with them taking what is yours. this continues through to the 1930s when a massive tragedy strikes over in germany. how could a far off land effect palestine so much? is it fair for this to happen? how does this prove our independence and self-determination? it doesn't. everyone knows that. the second world war is in places and there is a mass migration of jewish people to israel from all across the world and it happens before the war, during the war and after the war. your people are minorities in your own land. you have lost so much farmland to these people so they can build their own houses. you are not upset but you are saddened and worried for yourselves.

eventually, others like you begin to think that you should have the right to self-determination. that you should kick all these invaders out and reclaim your ancestral lands which you've held onto for so long. and a war starts. a war which started in 1948 and is still going to this day. a war because you don't want to give up your ancestral land and they don't want to give up their ancestral claims. a war neither party will win and both sides are afraid to admit it.

how can you go through so much but be so blind to history? the second you finally got the taste of freedom, it was too late to call it your own. you had to share it. it may have been better than being controlled by a foreign power but now you have to share it with one. you don't agree. you want your own place to be. you want a palestine or at least a place where all is actually fair.
basically, they have lived in the region for at least 1400 years. many for longer. the jewish people left the region around 200 ad and spread across the world. the palestinians took your place in the land and remained there until the jewish people suddenly showed up in the late 1800s demanding the land back. both have ancestral claims but who's is stronger?
the people who were there first but left 1800 years ago? or the people who have been living there and suffering under occupiers for the past 1800 years?
it's such a fucked situation.
