the song is about a forest with two routes to choose between, the story is a metaphor- the forest is in fact life itself and the routes are the decision you have to make during your lifetime.
the decisions are tough since you can't have both. the minute you choose an option, the other one disappears from your life and it's doubtful you would ever be able to go back and choose it. despite the fact that in the beginning you wouldn't be able to tell how big the difference is between the two routes, each path you choose will have its own consequences and you will be unable to know what would have happened if you had chosen the other decision. only after a while you will be able to look back at your decision and see the difference between the two decisions.
the tough decision i had to make in lofe was after elementary school. i had to choose which school to go to- i chose to go to this school and i have no idea how my life would look like if i were to attend a different school, but i know for sure that my life would have been completely different if i didn't go to this school, and it's likely that the reality i know wouldn't be the same.
