The story is about a lottery which held every year as traditionally in a small village which has 300 people, in a square in the village. All of those 300 people in this village took a part in this lottery. The lottery was conducted by Mr. Summers. He had an old black box which had papers inside it. Mr. Summers called to every man from every family in the village to take one paper. Just in one paper there was a black mark. At the first round of the lottery, a male 16 years or older comes to take a random paper. It was Bill Hutchinson that opened his slip of paper and saw the black mark in it. Mrs. Hutchinson claimed that Mr. Summers didn't give him time enough to take any paper that Bill wanted. At the second round of the lottery, everyone, no matter how old he is, men or women, could take a paper. Mrs. Hutchinson Tessie, took a paper, and even in the second part of the lottery, she "won" and got the black mark again. She stood at the center of the square and said "It isn't fair", and Injured by stones by the village people
